Principal
Sang Dae Lee, Assoc. AIA, LEED AP, is the principal of UNITEDLAB Associates, a Cross-Disciplinary Laboratory for Architecture, Landscape, and Urban Design, established in 2006. His design philosophy centers around integrating architecture with humanism within nature. Through extensive social research and analysis, he explores architecture in connection with human behavior, social phenomena, the surrounding context, and urbanism.
UNITEDLAB strives to address the challenges of a future with limited resources, actively implementing principles of social, environmental, and economic sustainability in its beautifully crafted designs. The studio has received numerous accolades, including AIA Design Awards, Architizer A+Awards, and ASLA Professional Awards, among others. Prior to founding UNITEDLAB, he gained 17 years of experience practicing at renowned firms in Los Angeles, Boston, and NYC, including those founded by notable architects such as Charles Moore, Arthur Gensler, Moshe Safdie, and I.M. Pei, working on diverse award-winning projects of varying typologies and scales, with expertise in architecture, urban design, and landscape architecture.
Currently serving as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Auburn University School of Architecture, Planning, and Landscape Architecture, he holds a Master of Architecture degree from the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) and a Bachelor of Engineering in Architecture from Kookmin University in Seoul, Korea, Summa Cum Laude.
